Kukkal caves
India has many cave systems that have the ability to attract a large chunk of tourists from far and across. One of these cave systems is positioned almost 40 kilometers from Kodai and is a place worth your visit. This is one of the must-see places while it comes to sightseeing in Kodaikanal.
The caves are among the oldest caves carved by Palaiyar or Paliyans tribe. These people lived inside these caves and carved their traces in the form of paintings that can still be seen on the rocks here. Lodged at 1500 meters, the caves are rock shelters offering mind-blowing sights of the valley down below. The valley is called Manjampath and can be seen clearly from up the caves.
Journeying to these caves promises engaging sights of orchids lining up the forest. If you are lucky, you may even spot wild animals like bison living in their natural habitat. Apart from orchids, you can also spot shola trees in abundance. Campers can camp here at the site which is positioned at 6200 feet in height. Since these caves are lodged on the hills of Kodai, the clime is generally cool and you may experience rains almost every single day. Travelers can expect to see a lot of biodiversities here. It is visited in fewer numbers, courtesy its location. It is not a spot for mass tourism.
