Dolphin’s Nose is basically a flattish looking rocky formation that juts out of the mountain and resembles a dolphin’s nose. Hence, the moniker. Its nestled at 6600 feet and stationed about 8 kilometers from Kodai. The thrill of standing at the edge of the Nose is beyond your imagination. You can get a fabulous sight of the whole of Kodai’s natural beauty and ruggedness here.
Visitors need to make a trek of at least 3 kilometers to reach this viewpoint. The trekking level is moderate and is enjoyed by the lovers of adventure. The trekking trail will take you through the verdant terrain of the Palani Hills to reach your destination. Usually, the trek can be completed in three to four hours time during which you can engage in photography and selfie sessions. The enigmatic vistas of the pine trees and foggy clifftops will make you swoon!
On the way to the viewpoint, you can also stop by the local village ‘Vellagavi’ and a waterfall. Locals are friendly and may also offer guide services if you pay them right. If the day is sunny, you may also have the chance to view the beautiful Vaigai Lake. Once you reach it, make sure to stand at the edge of the Dolphin’s Nose called Echo Point where your own sounds come back to you from the hill’s bottom. This spot is known as Echo Rock. This is one of the things to do in Kodaikanal.
Facts –
- The local vendors sell fruit juices at relatively higher prices. So, it is advised to carry your own food and drinks.
- You can visit a village en-route but permission has to be taken. It is the forest department that gives you permission.
- The best time for visiting this place is from March till May. November till February is cold and not suitable for those that cannot tolerate the low temperature.
- Many restaurants are located nearby like Hilltop Inn and Aby’s Cafe.
